In 2008, Ruba embarked on her English language teaching journey. She has taught in the United States, Saudi Arabia, Canada, and Jordan. In addition to teaching EAP and General English, Ruba has extensive experience teaching IELTS and TOEFL test preparation classes. By this summer, Ruba will have obtained her certificates in DELTA and M.A in applied linguistics. She is currently dividing her work schedule between professional language assessment for the British Council and the Centre of the Canadian Language Benchmark and teaching ESL and test preparation classes at private and public colleges. Culturally responsive teaching and alternative assessments are what Ruba is most passionate about. Ruba is an active member of TESL Ontario and IATEFL and helped moderate a number of their webinars. She has participated in multiple international cultural exchange conferences in the United States and the Middle East to promote cultural understanding and tolerance. When she’s not working, she enjoys cooking, dancing, and outdoor activities- she’s fond of canoeing, hiking, and camping with her big family. Her favourite quote is Socrates saying, “to be is to do.”
