Call for survey participants

Dear Parents

My name is Tasneem Ahmed. I am a graduate student at OISE/University of Toronto, Canada. I am conducting a study with my Professor, Dr. Julie Kerekes and peer, Danai Florou. We are collecting information about the language choices that the immigrant parents/guardians make for their children. We want to present the findings of this study in a “Multidisciplinary Approaches in Language Policy and Planning Conference” to be held at the University of Calgary on 5-7 Sep. 2013.

We would like to request you to please help us in collecting data for our study above. Parents/guardians who have one or more children in Elementary or Middle school can take part. We ask you to spend 10-15 minutes of your valuable time to answer the questions in the survey. The questions are about one of your children who is enrolled in Elementary or Middle school. If you have two or more children, you may fill out one form for each child. The survey is anonymous, completely voluntary and should not take more than 10 minutes. Please go the following link and proceed with the survey:

You may choose not to answer or request to remove your answers at any stage without any loss on your side. Since our study is about language policies in Ontario, maintenance of mother tongue/heritage languages, your families may benefit by being a part of such a discussion. The findings of the study will be shared with you in Sep. 2013.

Please contact me at by email tasneem.ahmed@utoronto.ca if you have any questions. Please do not hesitate to contact the University of Toronto Ethics Review Office at ethics.review@utoronto.ca or 416-946-3273 if you have any concerns about the rights of participants.

Thank you for your time.
Sincerely

Kerekes, Julie, Dr.
Ahmed, Tasneem
Florou, Danai
