Barriers to citizenship – how ESL teachers can help

Newcomers may face any number of challenges in taking the Canadian citizenship test — e.g., low literacy levels, learning disabilities, or even post-traumatic stress disorder. CLEO (Community Legal Education Ontario) has just released a new publication entitled Barriers to Citizenship – How ESL Teachers Can Help [pdf], which explains how teachers can help their students get the necessary support to have a fair chance on the citizenship test. CLEO also has other resources available in a range of CLB levels on their website.
